An online devotional for writers
We are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. (Ephesians 2:10, NLT)
The USP – your Unique Selling Proposition or Unique Selling Point – is what makes you different from other writers.
It's also sometimes called your "Competitive Advantage."
But therein lies one of a writer’s deepest fears. It’s the fear that you are nothing special as a writer. That you are not as skilled as other writers ... that you have little or nothing to offer a client or publisher ... that you are a fraud.
Those fears are a pack of lies.
The truth is that you are different from other writers, thanks to your unique set of life experiences and strengths. These are the very distinctives with which God has gifted you to do the work He has for you.
Those experiences and strengths are your USP. And these are tthe very skills needed by specific business owners.
These business owners need good writing, but they are busy doing other stuff. In fact, they don’t have time to find a writer.
You know how you feel when you find someone else who shares one of your deepest passions or interests? That’s how these business owners are going to feel when you reach out to them and offer to help them.
They’re not looking for a writer who hypes up his bio to sound like all the other copywriters.
They are looking for you.
You are unique from other writers.
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for giving me a unique set of skills, life experiences, and strengths. You have in mind special clients that share my passions and need my skills. Let me face my fears and embrace the truth of the USP you have placed in me.
In Jesus’s name, Amen.
